I would then read as much as I could of Terry Pratchett and Juliet McKenna's books. I am a slow reader so that would probably be one or two books max. Ninjas hace more dicipline but pirates are cooler, although I can't comment with any justification because i know next to nothing about Ninjas. I like pirates mainly because I know more about western culture (including Africa) than Eastern. Ninjas seem to be the more popular at the moment. Sometimes there is bliss in ignorance.
